Q banding

Q banding is a method of identifying chromosomes in a karyotype that have abnormalities by staining the chromosomes with quinacrine dye. When the chromosomes are viewed with a fluorescent microscope after this treatment, unique patterns of fluorescent bands are seen with each chromosome.
