This is nutrition in the form of dextrose, amino acids and electrolytes, vitamins, minerals, and trace metals administered intravenously to a patient whose intestines fail to function. peripheral parenteral nutrition (PPN): for short term requirements total parental nutrition (TPN): for patients who require long-term support.
