neonatal jaundice
This is physiologic jaundice which occurs after birth. It is due to the normal turnover of red cells after birth or low level of glucuronyl transferase. It lasts about 1 to 2 weeks and is characterized by an elevated unconjugated bilirubin. Other types of neonatal jaundice could be due to medical problems, e.g. hemolytic diseases, enzyme deficiencies, and hemorrhage. Selected neonatal jaundice links: |
