Left ventricular hypertrophy is characterized by thickening of the wall of the left ventricle of the heart, often as a result of high blood pressure. Because hypertrophied ventricle demands more blood supply, and such supply have to perfuse a larger area, left ventricular hypertrophy predisposes one to myocardial ischemia and infarction.
