gallium scan
This is a nuclear scan involving the intravenous injection of radioactive gallium. Gallium concentrates in areas of inflammation and tumor growth. Although liver, spleen, bone and colon retain gallium, it is possible to differentiate abnormal gallium uptake from normal retention.
