camptothecin
This alkaloid was originally isolated from a Chinese tree, Camptotheca acuminata but has also been found in the nothapodytes tree (Nothapodytes foetida). It is the first known naturally-produced DNA topoisomerase I inhibitor, and as such is being heavilly researched as a treatment for a wide variety of cancers. Selected camptothecin links: |
